Westminster to Reinstate Diving for 2009-10 Season[]

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. , December 17th, 2008

Westminster College announced that springboard diving will be reestablished as a component of the varsity swimming program for the 2009-10 season.

Westminster has competed exclusively in swimming events since the 1993-94 season, following the program's last year as swimming and diving in 1992-93. New additions to the program will be the hiring of an assistant coach who will specialize in diving and the re installation of diving boards to the Westminster Natatorium.

"I am excited that diving will be reinstated as this will only further enhance our already highly-competitive varsity swim program," said Westminster Director of Athletics Jim Dafler. "We are very appreciative of the support we have received from members of the College Board of Trustees, President Richard Dorman, and other members of the College administration to make this a reality."

The Westminster men's and women's swimming teams have each won four Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championships since 2003. Head coach Rob Klamut, who is currently in his 24th year leading the program, also welcomes back the diving program.

"Reestablishing the diving program is going to be a wonderful complement to the swimming program," Klamut said. "I am very excited to begin bringing quality student-athletes who are divers to Westminster. Diving will help the program stay competitive at the conference, regional and national level."
