[edit] Background

[edit] Insights

[edit] It is late in the game for summer of 2009.

    • Sign ups happened in April for various families.
    • Swim meet schedules and leagues have been set.
    • I wish we would have started sooner in this venture to get a robust program for 2009.
    • We need to get a few elements established as an expansion program in 2009 so that we can have a bigger, dynamic program in 2010.

[edit] Longer term, 2010 talk

  • Mark Roosevelt has already made public sttements that the summer enrichment program for 2010 is going to get a major overhaul due to stimulus funding.
    • In 2010, every middle school student will have an invite to summer enrichment.
    • In 2009, only the bottom 2/5ths are eligible.
    • The activities in 2010, given support from particpants, will have year-round access to facilities. So, this will be more than just summer-time activities.
    • New research shows that the less advantaged kids make academic regression in the summers but those of more affluent families make gains.
