Ak-O-Makkers Larson and Sutcliffe Excel at Lifesaving ChampionshipsEdit
- May 2009 from http://www.CampAkomak.com
We are always proud to share with you the accomplishments of our Camp Ak-O-Mak alumni. Congratulations to Alex Larson 17 and Alyce Sutcliffe 18 who recently took Gold and Silver in the Ontario Lifesaving Championships in Tillsonburg.
This unique sport is designed to test an athlete’s strength, speed, agility and endurance in the pool through a series of timed rescue drills and competitive swimming. Competitors participate in a variety of events such as swimming with manikins over 50 or 100 meters using life guarding equipment such rescue tubes or fins.
Alyce Sutcliffe has also been selected to represent Canada at the 2009 Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships. Alyce and her 20 other team mates will compete against top swimming nations like Australia in Edmonton in June 2009.
Although very busy with her athletic pursuits, Alex will be returning to Ak-O-Mak as a CIT this summer during Session #6 so she can tell us all about the exciting sport of Lifesaving.
