Kyle Wilson, the Central Catholic High School football player who suffered an apparent stroke last Thursday while watching a game, died overnight in Children's Hospital.
Kyle, 16, a junior and a starting halfback at Central Catholic, collapsed Thursday night while watching the McKeesport at Gateway game. He was taken to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, but released later that night.
Kyle was taken to Children's Hospital by his parents the following morning. Central Catholic's coaches said Kyle underwent surgery Friday night.
Central Catholic yesterday said it will take part in the WPIAL playoffs this weekend. The Vikings are scheduled to play Penn-Trafford in the first round Friday at Fox Chapel.
"The Central Catholic football team has decided to honor Kyle by participating in the playoffs, albeit with heavy hearts," the statement released by Kyle's family said. "We are confident that Kyle would want us to continue on."
